Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz belongs to the mineral family Quartz. The colour can vary from pale pink through to reddish-rose. The colour is thought to be due to the presence of small amounts of titanium (some say also manganese or dumortierite). If a rose quartz has a large amount of titanium then it will have a lilac tinge to it, and this is known as Lavender Rose Quartz.

Rose quartz is found in abundance around the world. Even though it is part if the quartz family, it occurs mostly in massive form (lumps), unlike other quartz which is found in crystal form (with edges and points). Rose quartz wands will have been cut from a massive lump as the points do not form naturally. It can occur rarely in crystal form, but this is called Pink Quartz and mineralogists now believe there is a distinct difference between the 2 crystals (more information about this can be found online).

When we think of Rose Quartz, we think of love. It has such a gentle energy that it can safely be used by anyone, even babies. It is calming, balancing, gentle and loving. It encourages love of self, others, nature and the world. It heals wounds of the heart and helps us to give and receive love. Rose quartz can be good for attracting love into your life or improving love in an existing relationship. Rose quartz is a beautiful crystal to have beside your bed to give you a calm, loving environment when you sleep.

In healing, rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra and supporting healing of the heart. I often place 6 pieces around the body to place a person in a net of love. I also have a large piece that I use to massage through the emotional layer of the aura around the body.

Physically, Rose Quartz is used to heal ailments of the thymus, heart, and lungs. Rose Quartz helps bring about a more youthful complexion; aides in circulatory, heart, adrenal gland, spleen and kidney ailments; alleviates vertigo, asthma and varicose veins; eases problems with sexual frustration and balances the sex drive.

My experience of living with Rose Quartz;

My week has definitely been filled with love - mostly on a spiritual level. Love takes many forms and I have learned this week that human love is only one form and, at times, can be rather shallow. If you are lucky enough to find a deep soul love from within, this love is amazing. Learning to love yourself is the most important kind of love and once you can do this, then you are in a better place to be able to share this love with others.

I had a conversation with a friend about the 3 types of love – Eros, Philos and Agape. I hadn’t heard of these before and found it interesting to research. It is worth mentioning that my friend didn’t know I was carrying rose quartz this week, the conversation just developed into talking about love.

When I went to my weekly yoga class, I felt a stronger need to be giving myself love and space to honour myself. I found that I wanted to keep putting my hands in the Anjali mudra (prayer position over the heart) which is used as a posture of composure, of returning to one's heart.

I slept well with rose quartz and felt calm and peaceful all week.
