Citrine belongs to the mineral family Quartz. This is the same family as clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst & smoky quartz. It is yellow in colour and this is produced by tiny deposits of iron or slight doses of irradiation. Natural citrine is comparatively rare and most citrine on the market is mined as amethyst or smoky quartz and heat treated. A natural citrine would have a slightly paler colour whereas the heat treated citrine varies in shades from pale yellow to dark ye
